Can I camp overnight on a beach in Jamaica?

Do any of the beaches allow you to camp overnight on them?

Hi Delainie,

Very interesting question!

I doubt that very much, but I can't speak to all the private properties - which include the hotels & resorts.

There were once designated camping sites just outside of Ocho Rios - in the Robins Bay area, and also in Negril. Not the 7 mile beach area of Negril, but on the Cliff side. We haven't heard anything much about those these days though.

Our guess is that they have been discontinued for security reasons.

Your best bet would be to contact your hotel directly and find out if they allow it on the beach in front of their property.

I love the question though, certainly got me thinking.
