Child safety in Jamaica

by Russ
(Indiana,USA)

QUESTION:.

We have heard a few horror stories about young children being in Jamaica.

We keep a fairly tight rein on our child but a few seconds of not paying attention could lead to a lifetime of sorrow.

Is there credible truth to the rumours? Are there places that a family should not plan on touring?

What about being out at night? And restaurants?
Are some less child friendly than others?

ANSWER: by Wellesley Gayle Nov. 19. 09

Hi Russ,

It would be interesting for me to hear those 'kids horror stories'!

- I honestly haven't heard any.

I am not sure what the age of the child you are referring to but basic child care rules remain wherever you are, and wherever you go - and in Jamaica is no different.

It's hard for me to say where not to tour though. Admittedly, we have some crime problem but most of the crimes are isolated to the inner cities areas or garrisons, a huge percentage!

About nights and restaurants?

Again, as any typical visitor or traveller, you'll just need to take basic security precautions. For example, don't wander off by yourself or travel with friends.

Russ, Jamaica remains a favourite tourist destination for many, not just among other Caribbean islands, but across the world! Just take a look at these real stories.

I hope that helps!
