Earthquake Felt in Jamaica Today - May 16 2011

by Admin
(Jamaica)

Approximately 10:15 today - not 100% sure of the time, I felt the tremor in Montego Bay Jamaica. It was a very strong shaking in the building.

I have also gotten several reports from person in Westmoreland, St. Ann, Kingston and other places in the island.

So far there have not been any reports of damage or injures. One of my co-worker's computer screen fell off and was shattered.

Update: Mr. Raymond Stewart of the Seismic Unit at the University of the West Indies on RJR’s Hotline program confirmed that the earthquake occurred at 10:07 am with the epicenter 20km south of Black River.

The earthquake measured 5.0 on the Richter scale and was felt island wide.

Interestingly, I was at a church service on Thursday night, and the visiting pastor from America, Kevin Basconi had prophesied it was going to happen. God is true!

There was another one felt at UWI Mona campus as well at approximately 3:00-3:30 today. not sure of the magnitude but I could feel my whole body shaking. Definitely larger than the one on Monday.
