Jamaica - I was happy to give back to that beautiful country

I' ve spent most of my vacationing years travelling throughout Jamaica. The beaches are beautiful, food is fantastic, and the people are warm, caring, fun and always make me feel welcome.

When I heard about an opportunity to volunteer in Jamaica with Great Shape's iCare Project, partnered with Sandals Foundation and VOSH Northwest, I couldn't wait to give back to the people of such a beautiful country.

Over the course of 5 days, we saw exactly 1800 patients, gave out 2700 pair of glasses, 175 referrals for sight saving surgery and 595 nurse visits to check blood pressures and blood sugars.

It is beyond words to experience a 23 year old girl with a -21 prescription, and a 9 year old boy with a +10 prescription each receive a pair of glasses and watch their faces light up as they can see properly for the first time in their lives. I witnessed both of these events and many more.

I met some amazing people, made some great friends!I look forward to returning again next year.
