Jamaican wedding beliefs

by Lladi Slowik
(United States)

QUESTION:.

In 1972 my fiance was told by his family's housekeeper that if he took a Jamaican coin, cut it in half and send it to me. If we both keep our coins they will reunite.

We both kept ours and we are now engaged.

Do you know the history or details of this story? I thought it would be interesting to include on our wedding invitations.

ANSWER: by Wellesley Gayle December 24, 2009

Hi Lladi,

I must say that is interesting, very interesting!

This is the very first time I am hearing something like this so I don't know the details or the history of it. The one person who I am positive would know is no longer alive - grandma Mammy, but I'll try to find an older head to pick.

Stay in touch. Lladi.
