Contest Entry #9- Silver and Gold
Take the long slow drive from Papine, up into the Mountains, pausing along the way to breathe in the fresh mountain air, and some stunning views over our Nations'
Capital city.
Drive through New Castle Fort, and towards Holywell; stop along the way and take a close look at some of the exposed rock faces, with a small magnifying glass, examine the beauty in miniature of the Lichens on the rock, some more intricate and colourful, than the finest Orchids.
Head towards the Starlight Hotel and Spa, parking on the virge, just before the sharp right hand bend, to the hotel entrance: a short walk back along the road, and there, right at the edge of the road, the vein containing the Silver, and up above ( on private property ) the remains of the old Silver mine.
There is still Silver in the vein, but not in commercial quantities.
Take the short walk, almost due East, towards John Crow Peak, watch the John Crows wheeling and gliding in the thermals from the mountains, the magnificent view along the Buff River valley, the source of which is almost beneath where your car is parked.
All around you are the bushes that grow the "Legend", that is our Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee, the real "Gold" that is a part of our beautiful land.
