Well, Reggae Sumfest is now history, but the summer activities continues here in Jamaica.

-Tomorrow by the way, is the popular DanceHall Queen competition!

The next seven days will probably capture the more significant events- reflecting and celebrating Emancipation (Aug 1) and Independence (Aug 6).

  • ...that the first newspaper to be published in Jamaica was the ' Weekly Jamaica Courant'?.

    It was published in 1718 by Robert Baldwin but focused on European issues. It paved the way for other newspapers including 'The Daily Gleaner' which started in 1834 and is still operating in Jamaica.

    Dr. Leahcim Samaj, one of my local mentors, originally published this vintage photograph on facebook. I understand that the photo was taken in 1975 when Michael was here with the Jackson 5 for a concert. Two tremendously inspirational men in the same place, at the same time!
