Gardening at Woodford All Age School
Contest Entry #023 - Gardening at Woodford All Age School
Despite the heat of the day, the school garden is in the making!
This is up at Woodford All Age School, a small quite mountain town in the Blue Mountain range up a long and winding road from Papine near Kingston. This was a summer day that the students did not need to be at the school, but were there excited to start a school garden which would hopefully produce some fruits and vegetables for the school canteen for the upcoming school year.
The garden area is directly behind the school and required a lot of work to get in into planting shape. Together, we all chopped and cleaned up the bushed up area, tilled the earth and created planting mounds.
By the end of the day pepper, tomato, cucumber, lettuce, callaloo and many other seeds were planted. At the end of the day we all rehydrated with some cold soursop juice generously made and donated by a neighbor who had been watching us work.
