Is Gated Jamaican Community Best For Returning Residents?

QUESTION about: Gated Jamaican Community Or Not - Which is best for returning residents

1. Is it best for returning residents to buy a home in a gated community because it will be safer or just buy/build in an area of choice?

2. Which is the best areas to reside for returning residents?

ANSWER: by June Anderson (Jamaican Realtor), May 2017

I have always liked gated communities, both when I lived in one in the USA and here.

As far as the best area – I live in South Sea Park in Whitehouse, Westmoreland and there are a lot of returning residents here.

I have also heard good things about the Richmond Development in St. Ann which is a gated community with amenities.

Additionally it is easier to meet and make friends in a gated community – especially when you’ve been away from the island for years.

Many thanks for your feedback. I have seen on YouTube the Richmond and Draxhall Estate but did know there was a gated community in Westmorland I will definitely have a look at this and do a comparison.

The response seems incomplete. There is no reference to the fact that it is down to choice and living in gated communities is not compulsory to ensure safety. Choosing safe areas, installing security cameras and perimeter walls are also ways to ensure safety. Gated communities are certainly not on my list of options for when I return. Must have my house on the hill :-)
