Proud & Free, Jamaica 53!

Proud & Free, Jamaica 53!

Yup, its "Emancipendence" time again and the buzz is all across Jamaica my friend.

This year, the official tagline is "Proud & Free, Jamaica 53"!
It sound nice nuh true?

Yes! And events and activities will be all around the country.

According to the JIS, this year will focus on continued efforts to develop and promote the cultural and creative industries towards greater income generation.

The minister of culture promises six days of excitement and wholesome family entertainment from August 1 to August 6, as the country celebrates Emancipation and Independence.

Among the activities outlined were:

  • ‘Live Music Tuesdays’ in every parish;
  • ‘Independence Conversations’;
  • A National Thanksgiving Service on Sunday, July 27;
  • Island-wide Emancipation vigils;
  • Emancipation Jubilee; Mello-Go-Roun; and
  • the Grand Gala.

New to this year’s celebrations will be a Heart of Ska International Festival; Aunty Roachie Short Film and Literary Festival; Dutchie Food Festival; and the Big Stage: Pop and Variety Competition.

The Ministry of Youth and Culture is encouraging all Jamaicans to participate in the celebrations that will be taking place across the island.

Also, a major highlight of the 2015 Festival activities is the ‘Link Up and Labrish’ discussion forum that will be held at the Independence Village, Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre, 36 Hope Road, Kingston 10, from August 1-5, 2015.

For a full list o the major events, including advisories, visit the JCDC website.

Beautiful Jamaica
by: Reid

Happy Birthday beautiful and wonderful Jamaica, there is no other country like you. I am so proud to be one of your citizens and will always be one as long as God gives me breath.

God has made this country beautiful and resourceful. He did that, not to just display His creativity but to show how wise He is. Just think of how God allows us to have seasonal food types so that we can have food all the time. He provides for all of us. Diabetics, high blood pressure persons, every type of persons in our wonderful country are carefully thought about and provided for by our Father God.

If citizens of Jamaica know how resourceful and wonderful our country is, we would appreciate her more, take care of her and live peacefully with each other.
