With our most popular dishes being jerk chicken, oxtail, stew peas, curried goat, stew pork, and many others that are made mainly of ingredients that are not quite suited for healthier diets, visitors may be left wondering if their dining options will be limited.

Well, rest assured that your options will be numerous, for seafood restaurants in Jamaica. Here is a list of 10 of the best options in no particular order:

1. The Houseboat Grill

Originally built in the 1970s and operated as a bar and nightclub, the Houseboat Grill was rebranded as this unique and elegant seafood restaurant in 2001. Enjoy an array of lobster and seafood dishes while taking in the ambience and the live music. The restaurant does specialize in seafood dishes, but you will still be able to find vegetarian and chicken dishes on their menu as well. If you are ever in Montego Bay, you can consider dining here.

2. Sharkies Seafood Restaurant

Currently one of the most popular seafood restaurants in Jamaica, Sharkies was established in 2012. They are located right on the beachside In Runaway Bay, St. Ann. They are not just about a good view though, you can be sure to experience great customer service and tasty gourmet dishes as well. From shrimp, lobster, conch, fish and octopus, plus many more, you will have a wide variety of seafood dishes to choose from.

3. The Sky Beach Bar & Restaurant

Located on the seaside near the border of St. James and Hanover, this is the go-to seafood restaurant for most people, especially from Montego Bay. One of the best features of this restaurant is that they will allow you to choose exactly which freshly caught fish you would like to have and how you would like to have it prepared. Then, within minutes your fish is ready, just the way you like it. Outdoor seating allows you to be in touch with nature and enjoy the fresh sea breeze while you dine.

4. Whitebones Seafood Restaurant

Whitebones is a hidden gem in Kingston that offers a quiet country vacation and a beach-like ambience. There are themed sections such as "Oasis," "Hideaway," "Front Garden," and "Back Garden," as well as a private conference room. Driftwood, sea rocks, tropical fish, and fishnets separate the optional dining places, adding to the eclectic décor, rustic environment and lush gardens.

Fish, conch, lobster, oysters, shrimp and crab are among the freshest seafood options on the a la carte menu, all prepared with care with authentic Jamaican seasonings. There are both vegetarian and Italian options available.

5. Offshore Seafood Lounge

If you are looking for somewhere in Kingston with a combination of delicious seafood, entertainment and breathtaking views, this is the place to be. The Offshore Seafood Lounge is a rooftop restaurant that opened in 2020. Not only is the food mouthwateringly delicious, and the ambience casual, warm and friendly, but the customer service is impeccable.

A DJ is playing most nights, some nights are themed events, and depending on when you get there, you might receive a free cup of Jamaican crayfish soup. Their menu provides a wide range of seafood options and with their portion sizes, you will never have a complaint. Their fish tacos are a must-have!

6. Fireman's Lobster Pit

Located in Negril, this restaurant serves some of the best seafood in the area. In 2021, they received a TripAdvisor’s Traveller’s Choice award in recognition of their delicious offerings. They specialize in preparing tasty, fresh lobster and crab dishes. Which are definitely worth a try if you are staying in that area.

7. Flag City Seafood & Grill

This seafood restaurant is also located in Negril. If you enjoy fresh seafood and grilled foods, they provide the perfect combination for you. From grilled lobster to grilled fish, they provide some of the most preferred grilled seafood dishes.

You will also find favourites like curried conch and steam fish on their menu. Enjoy your meal with a side of fresh vegetables, bammy, festival or rice and peas. And, to wash it all down,  ask for a freshly picked coconut to wash it all down.

8. Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant & Bar

Even after being around since 1989, Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant & Bar is still regarded among the top seafood restaurants in Jamaica. Although the name is “Little Ochi”, it is located in Alligator Pond, St. Elizabeth. Their menu includes a wide range of traditionally prepared seafood dishes. The location right on the beach is perfect to enjoy some fresh sea breeze while you have your meal.

9. Far Out Fish Hut Restaurant & Bar

In Greenwood, the border of Trelawny and St. James, right by the sea you’ll find one of our favourite local seafood restaurants in Jamaica. Dishes are priced per pound and include fried fish, grilled lobster, shrimp, conch and octopus. You can also have some fish tea as an appetizer.

10. Quality's Sea Breeze Restaurant & Bar

You’ll find this restaurant on the West End Road in Negril, directly across the street from Mary's Bay. Breakfast items include tea, coffee, egg sandwiches, omelettes, cereal, and Jamaican breakfast foods such steam vegetables and saltfish & beans. Of course, bacon, callaloo, plantain, and toast can be added! Foods such as chicken or fresh fish are prepared in any form. Octopus, conch, oxtail, and, of course, our world-famous jerk chicken is available for lunch and dinner.

While these restaurants all brand themselves as seafood restaurants, as seafood is their main specialities, they all offer options for vegetarians and meat lovers as well. Making them great dining spots for those travelling in groups with individuals with different diet choices.
