Are there large "scary" insects in jamaica?

QUESTION:

Hello! Thank you for reading my question.

I visited Jamaica this past Christmas and had a powerful and wonderful experience. I plan to return and am considering an extended stay.

I did not see any insects during my visit, however since its a tropical island, I wonder if large (over 1") cockroaches or flying insects exist and are common pests on the island.

It may be worth noting that I plan to stay along the beach (in the Negril area) and out of the forested areas so I am guessing there would be fewer insects along the coast.

I'd be grateful for any insight you could share. Thanks very much!

I am not aware of any 'large' insects as you described them my friend. I had a similar question sometime ago, and this was my answer, take a peek at it.

 large bugs

I go to Jamaica alot and stay awhile by Ochee.I used to live in Oracabessa.Tes there are big scary biuugs down there,you are on a tropical island,jungle style.Most of them are just ugly.Never met a 40 leg yet and don't want to.Have killed alot of big roaches nd a few spiders,really don't like the orange and black ones in the bushes.Go and have a good time and just watch for them.The aunts hurt bad and they are not big,well some are.Love jamaica though.

 Large insects in Jamaica

On my Jamaica trip May 2010 I encountered
giant Cockroaches 1-2", Giant Spiders 2-4"
and the dreaded 40-legger all on the west end of Negril. I assumed they were common to the area.
