The reason behind the popularity of Nine Mile, St. Ann, is that it was the home of now deceased Reggae Icon Bob Marley. Bob Marley spent his formative years living in Nine Mile before heading to Kingston to pursue his musical career. You can also find the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston.
Later when the musician died, he was buried there and a Mausoleum was created in his memory.
The Bob Marley Mausoleum is a 3-hour guided tour through the life and old stomping grounds of Bob Marley. On this tour you will see, pictures of Bob Marley as a child, his parents, records, awards, his childhood home and his current resting place.
During the tour, you will also be treated to songs from Bob Marley’s extensive and rich catalogue by the live band on stage.
Great way to see authentic parts of Jamaica such as Brownstown and Alexandria. Be prepared to pay for your admission as current entrance prices (Aug 2022) are $30 for adults and $15 USD for kids 7 years old and above.
9 Mile is nearly 2 hours away from Ocho Rios although they are in the same parish. St. Ann is the biggest parish in Jamaica which means even though both areas are in St. Ann they are still some distance apart.
The journey takes you out of the towns and into the countryside where the roads are long and winding. The lush vegetation and laidback people compensate immensely for the length of the trip. Indeed, we can definitely confess that although the journey is lengthy, it is as much a part of the trip as the destination.
Montego Bay is approximately 3 hours away from Nine Miles.
Visiting Bob Marley's grave is a featured part of the tour of his mausoleum in Nine Mile, St. Ann.
If you would love to drive on your own then that is always an option. But, if you aren’t sure of the way and would rather not have to worry about getting lost, etc, then there are tour companies that could take you instead.
With some, you may have the option of travelling alone, but in most cases, it will be with a group of tourists from whichever area you are staying in.
Guests are often brought on air-conditioned coaches or other vehicles to the various tourist attractions on the island and this is no different.
The costs usually include transportation to and from your resort and admission however each tour company is different.
Yes, children are allowed to visit the Bob Marley Mausoleum but an adult must accompany them.
Regrettably, the tour is not wheelchair accessible at this time.
They strongly advise against pregnant visiting the Bob Marley Mausoleum as it does include lots of standing and walking around and the travel time to get to the location is considerable.
Visiting the Bob Marley Mausoleum is an exciting way of learning more about Bob Marley, Jamaica and the Rastafari religion all at once. It is one of the must-visit places in Jamaica for both locals and visitors.
