Negril, Jamaica, is one of our calmest towns. Whenever I bend that corner and see the โ€œWelcome to Negrilโ€ sign, I immediately feel a sense of calm and relaxation. If you have decided that Negril is your vacation spot, I can assure you that you have made a great choice.

And, if you ever need a trustworthy and knowledgeable local guide, consider booking a private tour with us!

However, nowhere is perfect, not even Negril. So, I am sharing with you a few tips and tricks to not only stay safe while you are there but, also to ensure that you get the most out of your stay.

1. Don't Skip the Sunscreen:

One of the best things about Negril is the beach. But trust me, you don't want to resemble a lobster after your first day. Jamaica's sun is no joke. Slather on that sunscreen and reapply regularly, especially if you're hitting Seven Mile Beach.

2. Don't Miss Out on Local Eats:

We have a vast cuisine with so much to try. Depending on your resort, you may find a more Americanized menu, so venture out to the local restaurants and even food street vendors. Jerk chicken, patties, and fresh seafood are must-haves.

So definitely check out the local joints which are not hard to find. If you are on the seven-mile beach, you will find plenty. Youโ€™ll thank me later, trust me.

3. Donโ€™t Just visit the Popular Spots:

Wherever you are staying is sure to recommend some of the most popular spots in Negril, like Jungle Night Club and Ricks Cafe. While these are must-visit spots, do not exclude the less popular local spots. The small bars, clubs, and restaurants are great for having a fun evening in a smaller setting.

4. Don't be Afraid to Interact with the Locals:

We are some of the friendliest people you'll ever meet. Yes, we do get a bad rep sometimes, but in most cases we are completely harmless, plus we will keep you laughing, because one thing us Jamaicans know to do is crack jokes. Let loose and have fun with us.

5. Steer Clear of Unlicensed Tour Operators:

While exploring, you might come across tempting tour offers from random folks. Stick to licensed tour operators to ensure your safety. You want to avoid ending up in a sketchy situation. Your resort or hotel can recommend trustworthy options.

6. Don't Ignore the Weather:

The weather here can be a bit unpredictable. Don't ignore those dark clouds rolling in. Carry a small umbrella just in case. You don't want to be stuck in a sudden downpour without cover.

7. Don't Be Afraid to Explore:

Negril is more than just beaches. Explore the cliffs, check out Rick's Cafรฉ, and take a boat tour. Embrace the adventure โ€“ you might discover hidden gems off the beaten path. Sometimes just a simple stroll will bring you amazing discoveries. Even though it is important to stay cautious, most times it is completely safe to ask locals for recommendations for places to see.

8. Avoid Being Disconnected:

While it's great to unwind, staying connected is essential, especially when you are in unfamiliar places. This is not exclusive to Jamaica but is certainly worth remembering.

9. Don't Bargain Too Hard:

Sure, bargaining is part of the culture, but don't go overboard. It's a delicate dance. Be fair and if you're not interested, a simple "no, thank you" will do. You don't want to unintentionally offend anyone.

10. Don't Miss The Sunset:

Negril is famous for its breathtaking sunsets, especially at Rick's Cafรฉ. Make it a point to catch at least one. It's a magical experience you won't forget. Sip on a tropical drink, enjoy the music and soak in the beauty of the sun bidding farewell to the day.

In a nutshell, Negril is paradise, but like any destination, there are things to keep in mind. Be respectful, embrace the local culture, and savour every moment. Now, go ahead, pack your bags, and get ready for a great time in Negril!
