Question about: British citizen by jamaican birth before 1962?
I was told by someone that because I was born before Jamaica got it’s independence in 1962 from Great Britain I am a British citizen as well.
Is that true?
If it’s so, how can I go about getting some form of documentation which will clarify that.

Hey Marjorie, thanks for asking!
I inquired of the British High Commission in Kingston and was advised that the best way to determine British citizenship was to complete an online check at their UK government's website.
- In the search bar, type "british citizenship"
- Look through the search results for 'Check if you're a British citizen'
- Click on that link and follow the instructions from there.

Note: I also found this documentation, British citizenship: automatic acquisition
. I believe it might be helpful to you as well.
I hope those instructions will help.
