And they were not to be disappointed. After the formalities, the special moment arrived, and at 8:40pm, the symbolic Christmas tree was lit to the delight of the patrons.
But it also meant time for the live performances which everyone came to see!

Yes, Jamaica's song bird Alaine was the guest performer, but the lineup featured some of the best artistes and performers in the city, both upcoming a experienced.
- 2019 JCDC Gospel Festival Winner, Joanna Walker,
- Local singing sensation, Anique Morris,
- The veteran and cultural icon, Mackie Conscious
- As well as gospel artiste Yvonne Cohen
Several other local and church groups also performed, including:
- Men Of Valour
- The St. James Lay Magistrates Choir
- Family Church On The Rock, and
- The Lilliput Praise Team.
As usual, the ceremony, earlier, featured speeches, wishes and pledges from esteemed members of the municipality, government as well as private sector interests, representing the sponsors.
Representatives of New Fortress Energy (the main sponsor), Digicel and JPS gave greetings. Other sponsors include FosRich, Kris An Charles and Tyre Warehouse.
By the way, three years ago, the New Fortress Energy build a state of the art liquefied natural gas terminal in Bogue Montego Bay.
According to their VP of Public Affairs, Verona Carter, 1,000 gifts were donated to Children of the parish this year at Christmas.
Of note though were His Worship, The Mayor Of Montego Bay, Homer Davis, and Member Of Parliament, Desmond Mckenzie, who both gave their charges, commitments and wishes for the parish and city.
Mr. Mckenzie, for example, challenge the gathering...
"Christmas is not about you and you alone, remember those on the streets in the parish, remember the reason why we celebrate Christmas"
The Performance Highlights?
All the performers did well, renewing and reminding us of the essence of Christmas In Jamaica, in songs.
Perhaps the standout though was the 2019 JCDC Gospel Winner, Joanna Walker, with melodious singing in a energetic performance.
Just before her new single at the end, she had the crowd dancing to the old favourite, Feliz Navidad!
I was particularly impressed with the Lay Migratates choir as well... I didn't even knew they had one. That lead singer has a powerful voice.
Of course, Anique Morris, showed why she is one of the best in the parish, with her powerful renditions of Joy To The World and Oh Holy Night.
Yvonne Cohen's new song, "Members Of Parliament" resonated well with the crowd and had them singing all along.
And yes, I have the highlights in pictures and video, starting, right now...

Like all parishes in Jamaica, the Christmas Tree Lighting is an annual event that takes place in each parish capital.
It is put on by each parish's Municipal Corporation, formerly the Parish Council.
