Places that are known for a particular “wow factor” that other places may not have, and if they do, there particular one is a little different from the rest.

Lets face it, we all have a bucket list hidden somewhere that we want to check off one of these days. I’m pretty sure that you will agree with my when I say, the moment u think about these famous places these things pop in your head!

  • France: 
    Love, Eiffel Tower and the French Riviera;
  • United States: 
    Time Square (New York), Las Vegas and the statue of Liberty;
  • Jamaica: 
    MusicAthletics, Jerk, Beaches, Jerk, Dance
    ... Jerk, Oh, did I say JERK?!

Lets be real here, we Jamaicans love our jerk! Jerk chicken, jerk pork, jerk fish, jerk sausage, jerk anything… WE JUST LOVE JERK!!

Now, many may think that its just putting meat on a grill and getting the nice smokey flavor, but assumption is wrong, wrong, wrong!

It isn’t “jerked” without OUR famous Jamaican jerk seasoning or sauce! You can’t get it right if the jerk sauce “ain’t tight”! 

There is something about cooking, that if its not coming from a direct source it just doesn’t taste the same.

Look at it this way, there is this one dish that you love so much, and you’ve had some good ones over the year, but nobody, ain’t nobody…make it quite like your mama or grandma!

Am I right??

Well its the same here, you will never get that true Jamaican jerk without a true Jamaican jerk sauce or seasoning, made from true Jamaican ingredients!

But don’t worry my dear, don’t you fret, there is still hope yet :-)

For persons living here in Jamaica or abroad, and want to prepare some jerk food on their own, but don’t know how to make an authentic Jamaican jerk sauce then they can stop by the  supermarket and grab a bottle or jar of Jamaican jerk sauce and/ or seasoning.

The following Jamaican food companies have also been generous (or should I say 'forward thinking') enough, to conveniently make our jerk sauces and seasonings available on supermarket shelves “a yahd and abroad” (here and and other countries)!

These are what I would consider the top brands for Jamaican jerk sauce and seasoning.

  • Grace Jerk Seasoning
  • Grace Jerk Sauce
  • Walkerwood Jerk Seasoning
  • Walkerwood Jerk Marinade
  • Eaton’s Jerk Seasoning
  • Island Spice Jerk Seasoning
  • EasiSpice Jerk Seasoning

And, you can get these in either mild or hot!

I haven’t made any jerk sauce from scratch to date, I’ve always just grab a jar while at the supermarket. I however, will be sharing with you the recipe from Jamaicans.com… Enjoy!

Jamaican Jerk Sauce Recipe

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Pimenta ( allspice berries)
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 6-8 garlic cloves
  • 4-6 Scotch bonnet peppers
  • 1 tablespoon ground thyme or 2 tablespoons thyme leaves
  • 1-2 bunches scallions (green onions)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce to moisten

Method

  1. Put content in a food processor or blender and liquefy
  2. Pour sauce in a Jar and keep refrigerated.
  3. The sauce will keep forever if kept refrigerated
  4. To increase spiciness blend pepper and pimenta and add to sauce the hot peppers at any time.
