Is it cheaper to go to Mexico or Jamaica?
Of the two countries, Mexico is the cheaper one. Flights to Mexico are more inexpensive than to Jamaica, which contributed to Mexico's being more affordable overall. However, the cost of all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica and Cancun (for example), is around the same price.
Mexico and Jamaica have similar weather. Jamaica has a tropical climate while Mexico experiences a sub-tropical to tropical climate. Both countries have similar amounts of rainy and sunny days and they both have the same rainy season. Jamaica tends to get a little hotter than Mexico and Mexico gets colder than Jamaica by a few degrees.
If you are interested in nightclubs and the like, only certain parts of Jamaica will offer that. While the nightlife in Jamaica is very much alive and can last till all hours of the morning, it is more relaxed than in Mexico.
If you are interested in finding good spots in Jamaica to party until the wee hours then you will, but if partying day and night is big on your vacation bucket list, Mexico might be more suited for you.
Mexico’s beaches aren’t that different from Jamaica’s — at one end at least. Mexico’s Caribbean shores have extensive white sand beaches as well, just like Jamaica does. However, Mexico has the pacific at one end which offers a different beach experience.
Snorkelling is a lot better in Jamaica, but the cooler more aggressive waters on Mexico’s pacific shores are great for surfing.
Mexico being a large country makes it impossible to have multiple experiences on one trip. It will also take some travelling to see them as well. Jamaica is small be still has a mix of terrains that aren’t lacking in surprises. It is fairly easy to have a hillside adventure and a swim in the pristine turquoise sea on the same day.
Both countries have historical sites such as the ruins in Mexico which are a must-see. Jamaica has many historical sites all over the island as well, here are some now.
Jamaica hands down is better for a family vacation. Some hotels cater specifically to families and will even have nannies and amenities specifically for children of varying ages. For many, when you think of Mexico, you immediately think of parties and young adults on Springbreak which isn’t the ideal crowd for a family. While Jamaica provides these experiences as well, they are not the main focus on the island.
Jamaica also does a great job of catering to different vacations. Whether you are a laid-back, by-the-pool couple, the adventurous kind or anything in between, there is a vacation suitable vacation for you here. Adult-only accommodations, with clothing optional areas, are pretty common in Jamaica, especially in Negril.
No comparisons can be made between the two cuisines when it comes to taste. Both offer unique, delicious experiences. What I will say though, is that it might be a little harder to get experience authentic Mexican dishes in the hotel zones which have become very Americanised.
To have true Mexican dishes you will have to venture a little further away from the resort area.
This is not to say Jamaica doesn’t have a resort area as well. However, authentic Jamaican restaurants can be found woven in with the souvenir shops as well. Street food is also quite big in Jamaica, and pretty often you can find a jerk pan set up at various points throughout the town.
Most hotels just as in Mexico will offer more internationally known dishes and local dishes amended to suit the palate of their guests. But in hotels with multiple restaurants and eateries in Jamaica, you are almost certain to find at least one authentic Jamaican cuisine in the mix.
