Earlier this year, my wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Ocean Coral Spring Jamaica.
We chose it largely because of the strong reviews. And after spending some time there ourselves, I can say it didn't disappoint.
The property was lovely, the staff treated us well, the food was good, the lazy river turned out to be one of our favourite attractions, and when the hotel found out we were celebrating our anniversary, they surprised us with a complimentary upgrade to a two-level rooftop suite with our own Jacuzzi.
Would I go back?
Definitely.

Ocean Coral Spring is an all-inclusive beachfront resort at Coral Spring in Trelawny, near Falmouth on Jamaica's north coast.
It is a fairly large resort, with 513 rooms and there is plenty to keep you occupied without leaving the property: a large pool, lazy river, water park, restaurants and bars, bowling alley, theatre, spa, children's programmes and daytime and nighttime entertainment.
One thing that struck me was the appearance of the property itself. It felt spacious and modern, and from our rooftop area we had an excellent view across the resort.
This was easily one of the highlights.
When we told the staff that we were celebrating our anniversary, they gave us a complimentary room upgrade.
And this wasn't just a slightly better view; our room had two levels, with an upstairs rooftop terrace and a private Jacuzzi. My wife thought the room was great, and I certainly wasn't complaining either!
Ocean Coral Spring does offer two-level Privilege rooftop suites with private terraces and outdoor Jacuzzis, so we had landed ourselves quite an upgrade. Of course, I wouldn't book a regular room expecting the same thing—complimentary upgrades depend on availability and circumstances—but it was a wonderful gesture from the hotel.
And that rooftop became one of our favourite places to relax.

The hotel also gave us a special anniversary dessert during our stay.
It's a small touch, but those are the little things you remember.
Now this was fun.
Ocean Coral Spring has a lazy river that winds through the resort with a gentle current, waterfalls and floats. We got into the large tubes and floated our way around together.
I would describe it as a cross between relaxing in the pool and doing a very gentle river-tubing attraction. You aren't rushing anywhere - you simply sit back and let the water take you around.
And as you can probably tell from the photo, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. My wife found it especially relaxing.
Lazy River At Ocean Coral SpringThere is even a bar at the lazy river. The resort currently lists pool bars at both the main pool and the lazy-river area. For me, this is one of the features that makes Ocean Coral Spring stand out from a standard all-inclusive with just a pool and beach.
Overall, we thought the food was good.
They have quite a range of dining options, including Jamaican and Caribbean, Indian, Italian, American barbecue, seafood and international buffet dining.
We tried Thali, the Indian restaurant, and enjoyed it as well.
We also did one of the interactive grill-style dining experiences, which was another highlight. The resort's Sakura restaurant offers teppanyaki-style cooking, where part of the enjoyment is watching the food being prepared in front of you.
That's one thing I like at an all-inclusive: having enough variety that dinner doesn't feel like you're simply returning to the same buffet every night.
Our experience with the staff was positive; they were friendly and engaging from the beginning.
One of the ladies at reception complimented my wife's natural hairstyle and told her she'd like to get hers done similarly - she has been trying to do that for a while.
The bellman was quite engaging too.
Those might sound like small things, but believe me, they matter; I'll always remember when somebody makes you feel welcomed rather than simply processed through check-in.
And, of course, the free anniversary upgrade itself left a lasting impression!
Sadly, we didn't see the full programme that evening, but we caught the latter part and enjoyed what we saw.
There was music and activity around the entertainment area, and we also saw a cultural presentation with performers dressed in African-inspired attire.

By the way, for the record they offer a range of daytime activities along with nighttime shows and live music.
We didn't plan our stay around the entertainment, but it was nice having something happening after dinner rather than the resort becoming completely quiet.
Here's where I'm not going to pretend; We didn't use the beach; Between the rooftop Jacuzzi, pool area and lazy river, we simply didn't get around to spending time there.
Ocean Coral Spring is a beachfront resort, but recent guest reviews are more mixed about the beach than they are about the pools and water attractions. Some visitors mention rocky sections, while others favour particular parts of the beachfront.
So if having an outstanding swimming beach is the single most important thing to you, I would look at very recent photos and reviews before booking.
For us, it wasn't an issue; we had plenty to enjoy without it.
Although we went as a couple, the resort is clearly well set up for families. There is a water park and family pool, while the Daisy Club caters to children ages 4–12. Teenagers ages 13–17 have a separate Teen Club with sports, games and video games.
Then you have the lazy river, bowling, pools and entertainment.
What I appreciated, though, is that we could still enjoy Ocean Coral Spring Jamaica as a couple celebrating an anniversary; it didn't feel as though everything was designed only for children.
Bottomline, Ocean Coral Spring is a good-sized, active resort. If you want plenty happening on-property, that can be a plus.
The official facilities currently include the lazy river, water park, bowling alley, theatre, multiple restaurants and bars, children's clubs, spa and sports facilities. Some services and activities cost extra, and Privilege rooms and services are a separate upgraded category.
Recent guest reviews are generally positive about the resort's rooms, pools and amenities, but—as with most large all-inclusives—you'll also find complaints about service consistency, maintenance and the beach.
That wasn't our experience though!
During our stay, the staff were friendly, the room was excellent and the property lived up to the strong reviews that persuaded us to book in the first place.
Celebrating our anniversary at Ocean Coral Spring JamaicaFor us, absolutely!
And I think the key words there are for us. We wanted somewhere nice to celebrate our anniversary without paying an unreasonable amount, and Ocean Coral Spring delivered.
The room upgrade certainly made the occasion even more memorable, but even putting that aside, we enjoyed the property, the food, the lazy river and the atmosphere.
Looking back at our photos now, some of my favourites aren't posed resort pictures at all; that's usually a good sign that we chose the right place.
Would I stay at Ocean Coral Spring again?
Absolutely.
Regards,
Wellesley
