What to see in Falmouth Jamaica?

Are you a frequent traveler to Jamaica but has never visited Falmouth?

If so, you are missing out! The historic town has more than just the impressive Georgian architecture to showcase.

Here are four fun and intriguing places to visit I've handpicked just for you.

  1. Burwood Beach
  2. The Cruise Ship Port
  3. Greenwood Great House and:
  4. The Swamp Safari Village

1. Burwood Beach

It's getting popular, but it is still probably one of the most secluded beaches in Jamaica.

Secondly, it has white sandy shores with warm crystal water that makes swim time fun and so much more relaxing. From my experience, Burwood beach is one of the shallowest and so, safest beaches on the island, especially to those who, like me, don't have any swimming skills to boast about.

You can expect guests that are staying in nearby hotels to occupy this beach. Nevertheless, you may still be able to find it less active since the number of guests varies, thus, providing more freedom and space for you to enjoy.

After you have taken your fill of enjoyment, you can easily swing by one of the local restaurants nearby for a bite. The Verandah restaurant is one of the closets to the beach and is famous for its continental cuisine.

2. The Cruise Ship Port

This newly refurbished Cruise ship Port at Falmouth Trelawny is simply spectacular.

From the beautifully paved courtyard to the three tier water fountain, the craft market, the duty free jewelry shop, just great.

Expect to be greeted and entertained with traditional Jamaican folk songs, dancers and a band with traditional Jamaican instruments.

A local souvenir shop is conveniently there with adorable Jamaican apparel and gift items.

As for food, there are four food courts along with a blue mountain coffee shack available.

3. Greenwood Great House

This is an ancient plantation home which is said to be the best preserved in Jamaica, located on top of a hill in the Greenwood area.

Because the great house has been untouched from the 1813 rebellion, its antique furnishings will captivate you.

Over 200 hundred years old, it has 25 rooms, and was built by the Barrett Browning family for the sole purpose of entertaining their guests.

And, it is also believed that the owners were good to their slaves, thus, the reason it was not destroyed along with the other great houses during the attack.

And finally!

4. Swamp Safari Village

This is a great location for those who are nature driven and are interested in wild life.

The two acre property, surrounded by mangroves, is home for many endangered crocodiles. There are also various species of wildlife such as iguanas, snakes, birds, owls and other organisms.

Your guide will teach you about them as you carefully and excitingly take your tour of the premises.

The tour is approximately forty-five minutes to an hour. During this time, you will see how the crocodiles are fed, what they eat, and what they actually look like while eating.

If this is for you, the hours of operations are between 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Please note however, that the site is only opened Mondays through to Fridays.

Hope this was of great help!
