I am sure you have heard people say Jamaica is breathtaking, and that is the absolute truth. But you won’t witness the full magnitude of its beauty if when you get here, you stay locked away on a resort….Even though I must admit, these all-inclusive resorts are so amazing that when you get there you don’t want to leave.

So, if you are a lover of the outdoors and planning to explore the beauty of Jamaica on your next vacation, here is a list of the best of the best outdoor activities in Jamaica.

Hiking

Our hiking trails will take you on an incredible adventure through some of the most stunning scenery on the island, from lush rainforests to gushing waterfalls. One of the most popular is the Blue Mountain hiking trails.

The Blue Mountains Peak Trail in Jamaica offers stunning views of the tallest mountain in the country, standing at 7,402 feet above sea level. The trail takes hikers through dense rainforest, past coffee plantations, and into the Blue Mountains foothills.

The 14-mile trail is challenging but worth it for the breathtaking views. Most hikers spend part of their night at nearby cabins and set out early in the morning to reach the peak in time for sunrise.

Climbing Waterfalls

Jamaica's beauty is awe-inspiring, with over 40 known cascading waterfalls. The island's beauty is not limited to rivers, beaches, and mountains, with many hidden gems yet to be discovered.

We can’t safely climb all waterfalls, but one of the most popular and one of our top tourist attractions is Dunn’s River Falls. You can join guided tours that lead you up to the falls, allowing you to experience the refreshing water and beautiful surroundings.

Zip-lining

If you visit Jamaica and do not do at least one Zip-lining tour, you are missing out! Imagine the thrill of zip-lining through the rainforest! Places like Mystic Mountain, Chukka Adventures, and YS Fallsoffer zip-line tours allow you to soar through the treetops and enjoy stunning views from above.

River Tubing on the Martha Brae River

River tubing is probably one of the most relaxing ways to explore the beauty of Jamaica. Plus, it is fun! It wasn’t as popular before, but it has certainly been growing. One of the most popular places to do river tubing is at White River. Check out companies like Island Routes, River Rapid and White River Calypso Rafting.

ATV Tours

I love a good ATV excursion. Most rides are in the countryside where you’ll ride through forests, fields, and villages, discovering hidden gems along the way. Even as a beginner, you will be just fine.

The tour guides are very observant. Where should you go for ATV rides? Chukks Adventures, JamWest Motorsports & Adventure Park and Yaaman Adventure & Nature Park are some of the most common places.

River Rafting

Another much-loved activity to enjoy the outdoors is river rafting. Imagine drifting along the gentle currents, taking in the lush scenery and serene atmosphere. Long bamboo logs are joined by metal wires to form the raft.

The majority of the time, they have an elevated lounge chair and measure around 4 feet broad by 30 feet long. The most popular river rafting spots are Martha Brae, Rio Grande, White River and Great River.

Bird Watching and Nature Walks

Jamaica is known for having one of the most unique birdlife in the world because of its abundance of natural environments. There are plenty of great places to go and take in nature here in Jamaica, where many people like going bird watching.

In Jamaica, early mornings or late afternoons are thought to be the ideal times to see birds. Bird enthusiasts go from all over the world to see some of the more than 300 kinds of birds that call this island home, 29 of which are native to Jamaica.

Of particular note is the Vervain hummingbird, the second-smallest bird in the world. Head to areas like the Cockpit Country or the Portland Parish for bird watching and nature walks where you can spot endemic and migratory birds.

With such vast beauty to explore, I am sure you are ready to book your trip. Our E-book, Jamaica On A Budget, is the perfect guide for planning your trip to Jamaica and ensuring you don’t miss out on anything, regardless of how tight your budget is.
