Are there dolphins in Jamaica? Yes, absolutely! There are actually 28 kinds of marine animals live at least part of their lives in Jamaican waters. These include Pygmy Sperm Whales (Kogia breviceps), Killer Whales (Orcinus orca), Bottlenose Dolphins (Tursiops truncatus), and West Indian Manatee (Trichechus manatus).

Not all of these species are permanent residents of Jamaican waters. Some come here to spend the winter in the island’s balmy waters or to go to other nations.

Of the 5 categories of marine mammals, only two can be found in Jamaica; cetaceans and sirenians. Whales, dolphins, and porpoises are some of these. Around the world, there are more than 70 species of whales, dolphins, and porpoises, however, these are the species of Dolphins that can be found in Jamaica.

While there are several species of dolphins in Jamaican waters, it is not that frequent that you hear people talk about the sightings. No exact spots on the island promise you a sighting of wild dolphins. But, according to a few TripAdvisor reviews, the cliffs in Negril, Treasure Beach and Pelican Bar in St. Elizabeth are your best bet for viewing wild dolphins.
