Contest Entry #031 - Chisholm Beach, Lucea - A Trip Back In Time
You hear so many stories saying that you can't or at best shouldn't visit the land of your birth. To that mindset, I say poppycock.
In 2011 the planets were properly aligned and I took a trip back in time to Chisholm Beach, Lucea!
Chisholm Beach is situated a mere 200 yards away from the Breadfruit tree where my navel string was interred. To the East (across the harbour)stands the Grand Paladium, North East Fort Charlotte with its cannons ready to repel all invasions.
Up the sharp incline across from the beach (North-West towards Negril) stands one of the oldest church in Jamaica. The Anglican Parish Church (St. Mary's) built in 1741, home to my early spiritual enlightenment and development.
My trip back in time touched on all the key elements that have Lucea written all over them. One Love, One Heart, One family!
The event in my submission shows a group of classmates from different years doing what have always done - "run a boat", ie. cook for ourselves and share.
The menu consisted of roasted yam, breadfruit, salt mackerel, sea-cat, conch, jerk-chicken and fish soup with spinners.
We had a full bar, including tonic wine and magnum.
In order for me, my classmates and friends to make this trip, we had to to give our medications a vacations also. Boy it was really worth it!
