One thing that remains an undisputed truth is how much as Jamaicans we love rum. We put it in everything, from food to drinks to pastries, we even use it for it's medicinal properties too. It should come at no surprise that we have several Jamaican rum brands, and among them is the Jamaican Moneymusk Planation rum. This distinctively Jamaican rum is renowned for its unique flavours and centuries-old tradition.

Located in Lionel Town, Clarendon, on six acres, the Monymusk Estate is one of the oldest sugar cane farms here in Jamaica and is home to Clarendon Distillers Limited (CDL). The Monymusk Sugar Factory originally owned the distillery, which was constructed in 1949. 

The ownership of the distillery has changed hands several times over the years, however it was taken over by the our government in 1976 when the Sugar Corporation of Jamaica was established. Subsequently, in 1980, National Rums of Jamaica Limited (NRJ), which presently possessed 100% of the distillery, took over its operations.

They produce two types of rum: pot still and column still rums, with column stills producing a light rum and pot stills producing a heavier style. The Light-style rum is fermented in open-air metal tubs for one or two days, while the heavy-style rum takes up to one month. After distillation, the rums are blended, diluted to 70% ABV, and stored in oak barrels. 90% of their production is sold as bulk rum. Many other brands are combined with the bulk rum. Captain Morgan Black, Myers, Port Royal, Royal Jamaican, Smatt's, etc. are a few examples. The remaining portion are used to create their premium brand of rum, called Monymusk, which is bottled and distributed to the Caribbean, the United Kingdom, and Canada.

  • Monymusk Plantation OverProof White Rum: colourless and triple distilled for purity. It owes its’ taste profile to combine blends of pot and column still rums. It is bottled at 63% Alc./Vol.

  • Monymusk Plantation Special Gold Rum: Golden in colour, it is a blend of rums selected from aged charred American oak barrels, in which maturation occurs for 2 years. It is bottled at 40% Alc./Vol.

  • Monymusk Plantation Classic Gold: Amber in appearance, this 5-year-old rum is a blend of premium rums selected from aged charred American oak barrels. It has a woody aroma, with caramel and vanilla flavour. It is bottled at 40% Alc./Vol.

  • Monymusk Plantation Whispering Breeze: a colourless and coconut-flavoured liqueur. As with the other expressions, it is very smooth to the palate. It is bottled at 40% Alc./Vol.

  • Monymusk Plantation Special Reserve: with a deep golden brown appearance, it is a blend of matured rums also selected from aged charred American oak barrels, in which maturation occurs for 10 years. It has a spicy fruity aroma. It is bottled at 40% Alc./Vol.

  • Monymusk Plantation Platinum White Rum: it is a two-year-old rum transformed into a colourless liquid by using coconut filters. The aged rum has a mix of fruits and spices. To the palate, it has a sweet lingering taste. This rum also has a smooth and dry finish with a complexity of flavours. It is bottled at 40% Alc./Vol.
