Commode Rental Options in Jamaica
by Name Witheld

Hi Wellesley, I hope you are well. My family and I are coming down next week. We will stay a few days in Kingston, then the other days in Mobay. I know there is a shop that hires out wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility items, but I wonder if I could get a commode to hire for Mum to use at the hotel.
ANSWER: by Wellesley Gayle Hey family (
I've removed your name to protect your identity, but left the question so someone else may benefit from it), it's wonderful to hear that you and your family are planning a trip to Jamaica next week. I hope your preparations are going smoothly.
Regarding your inquiry about renting a commode for your mum, I checked around and here are a couple of options you might consider:
- Independent Living Jamaica:
They are a leading distributor of home medical products and rehabilitation equipment in Jamaica, with locations in both Kingston and Montego Bay. They offer a variety of commodes, including standard, drop-arm, and transport models.
You can contact them at:
- Kingston: 876-754-2195 / 876-754-5198
- Montego Bay: 876-953-9142 / 876-953-9987
- Text: 876-885-3856 (Kingston) / 876-871-5045 (Montego Bay)
- Email: customerservice@independentlivingja.com (Kingston) / info.mobay@independentlivingja.com (Montego Bay)
They also offer delivery services, which could be convenient for your hotel stay. Note that they only open between Monday and Friday though.
- Ken's Wheelchair Service and Tours Jamaica:
Based in Montego Bay, they provide a range of mobility equipment, including wheelchairs and possibly commodes.
You can reach them at:
- Phone: (876) 381-9070
- Website: https://kenswheelchairserviceandtoursjamaica.com/
I recommend that you reach out to them ahead of your arrival to ensure availability and to arrange for delivery to your hotel. It's always best to confirm the specific equipment you need and any associated costs
or requirements.
I look forward to meeting up with you and the family another time again my friend!
**UPDATE**I reached out to Ken’s Wheelchair Service and unfortunately, they don’t rent the commodes. However, Ken did suggest a couple of practical options:
- Purchasing Locally: You can easily purchase a commode from most of the larger pharmacies across Jamaica. Some of the popular ones include J&J Pharmacy, Fontana Pharmacy, and other well-established pharmacies in both Kingston and Montego Bay. They usually carry a variety of mobility aids, including commodes.
- Bringing One Along: If it’s more convenient, you could also consider bringing a portable commode with you. This can be especially useful if your mum might need it throughout your stay or if you’ll be moving between accommodations.
If you decide to go the purchasing route, I’d recommend calling ahead to the pharmacies in Kingston or Montego Bay to confirm availability and pricing. Let me know if you need any help on this my friend.
Regards,
WG
