Curfew in all of St James?

by Lisa Jones

curfew in jamaica

Question from Lisa Jones:

"I have friends that live in Jamaica and will be visiting in a few weeks. They keep telling us there has been a curfew imposed in St James and all of Montego Bay. They say some days they can't leave the house in the morning or late at night. Do you have any details around this?"

Hi Lisa, thanks for reaching outโ€”and I completely understand your concern. Iโ€™ve checked the latest updates, and as of right now, there is no active curfew across St. James Parish or Montego Bay. So your friends and other residents should be able to move around without that restriction.

That said, certain parts of St. James have been under increased security focus in the past, especially with Zones of Special Operations (ZOSO) that bring in more police and soldiers to maintain order. But those are not the same as a full lockdown or curfew, and people are generally free to go about their business.

Sometimes when isolated incidents happen, local police might temporarily increase patrols or restrict movement in specific neighborhoods, but thatโ€™s different from an area-wide curfew. If there was a major curfew in place for Montego Bay or St. James, it would be all over the local news, radio, and social media, and I havenโ€™t seen any such announcement recently.

Of course, with any travel, especially to busy areas like Montego Bay, itโ€™s always wise to stay updated and check with your local contacts or trusted news sources just before your trip. But based on current information, you and your friends can feel confident about moving around, morning and evening, without those types of restrictions.
