The Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts (EMCVPA) is Jamaicaโ€™s ONLY local option for university education in visual and performing arts and arts administration. It certainly has a long history of artistic achievements that have cemented the institution in Jamaicaโ€™s history.

It first started as separate schools; the Schools of Visual Arts, Music, Dance, and Drama were all independent schools at different locations around Kingston. However, in 1976 they were consolidated under the Cultural Training Centre, a division of the Institute of Jamaica. All four institutions were combined in 1995, and the institution was renamed Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in honour of Edna Manley, OM, one of our pioneering artists from Jamaica.

Even though it is now one institution, Enda Manley College still offers separate schools of study, each with its own programmes and requirements. Along with those I list below, there is also The School of Continuing Education, where courses in artscope and kaleidoscope are offered.

Schools and Programmes

The School of Dance

The School of Dance offers a solid mix of academic and practical education to produce "well-rounded and informed artists." With the help of the School of Dance, you can work as a professional dancer, choreographer, teacher, administrator, advocate, community dance practitioner, production manager, event coordinator, writer, or researcher for a range of businesses and industries, including government agencies, media outlets, corporate settings, travel and entertainment businesses, musical theatre, professional dance companies, and educational institutions.
