Photo Contest Entry #09 -In Love at Lovers' Leap - My Honeymoon(1987)
This photo was taken in December 1987 of my husband Andrew and me, honeymooning in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, at the iconic Lovers' Leap.
As "yardies", there was no where else that we would rather be at this time in our life, as we leapt to the calling of being lovers, and making the solemn oath in matrimony -" till death do us part."
Almost twenty-nine years later, I look back at this photo with exhilaration and recapture how in love we were, and still are - at a place where legend has it that two slaves who were in love jumped to their death, rather than be held in captivity for the rest of their lives.
Although we didn't plunge to our death, we fell in love, and stood at the edge of a steep cliff, overlooking Cutlass Bay, symbolizing the risk we would take to make two lives one, even till death.
You can see from the photo how coy I appeared, but hanging on to my man for dear life! We are truly friends and soul mates even till this day, although we have had challenges, which made us even more committed to each other.
The scenery is captivating! Looking south-west from Lovers' Leap, you can see the waves crashing on Cutlass Bay, as reliving the legend and true story of lovers, who have given their lives to Love sweet Love! Cupid's arrow hit me in the heart in the name of love!
I thank God that I can recapture this special moment in my life, at a very special place, where love endures.
