What are the Benefits of Studying Abroad for Jamaican Students?

“Education is the key to success”, a phrase many Jamaicans, including myself, got hammered into our brains growing up. And in many ways that is true. Depending on your career goals, enrolling into a tertiary institution may be a necessary step.

While we do have universities here in Jamaica, the options seem few, and for those niche areas of study, Jamaica may not yet have the program or facilities to properly prepare you for this field.
In this case, looking overseas will broaden their options. So, if you have been considering tertiary education abroad but have been hesitant, here are some reasons to pursue that route.

The truth is, while we have exceptional institutions here, studying overseas will open a whole new world of incomparable possibilities.
Plus, brain drain is a great concern here in Jamaica. It is the norm for people to study and then leave to advance their careers elsewhere for many valid reasons. But, for many, the thought of leaving Jamaica and starting life permanently elsewhere is out of the question. That’s ok too. Even so, studying abroad shouldn’t be out of the question if your area of choice is currently unavailable on the island. You can leave, and bring your newfound knowledge with you when you return to share with those who have similar passions as you!
This will help propel Jamaica forward in more ways than one and you would be giving back to your country in your own way!
