Photo Contest Entry #32 -Determination, never give up on your dreams
They asked," Young man why are you crying, soldiers don't cry". They didn't know what I sacrificed for this job.
I had a cxc exam, chemistry to be precise the same day when I was told to come sit the military exam. I knew that 'mummy' didn't have the money to fund me through college after high school, so I decided I would join the army...
I went to Kingston the Thursday evening, first impression is important so I didn't want to be late. I had it all planned out, I was going to do the test at the soldier campus first then go back to Clarendon and do my cxc exam, few years later I would be working and saving for my future studies, I wanted to be a meteorologist...
I went to the JDF Campus the Friday morning, explained to one of the soldier that I had a cxc exam today.
I was told that I have three test to sit; Math, English and general knowledge. I went into the room and time was really ticking, the first paper was a math paper.
I was very good at math so I finished the paper first, i got 80% and the soldiers were astonished because I finished in no time...
I missed the cxc exam but I rushed back to Kingston and did the other 2 papers, I passed them. i did the a blood test and a chest x-ray I passed that too I was so happy, I didn't get to do the chemistry paper but i am going to be a soldier.
Two weeks later I did the final dental, ''Chuwayne" yes sir, you failed the dental! ...
Why I’d like to win this competition? To share my life experience with others and to help people.
I’m not rich, I can't sponsor or donate a bunch of money to those in need but I can certainly help, motivate and inspire others. I didn't do my cxc and I’m not a soldier but that doesn't stop me from striving for greatness, I’m 19 now and a college student.
