Wellesley and his family spent a family vacation at this resort some years ago and from his review of Franklyn D Resort, it was amazing. But what has changed if anything? Read on to see!

Is Franklyn D Resort Child Friendly?

When resorts say family-friendly, it sometimes just means “kids can sleep here”. Most times, parents would have fun if they were able to get a break from the 24/7 job that is being a parent. At Franklyn D Resort this is quite the opposite.

The resort has been popular in parent groups and mommy circles for its all-inclusive children's experience. 

How Many Rooms Does Franklyn D Resort Jamaica Have?

Franklyn D Resort | Bedroom Private Balcony

Franklyn D Resort has 78 bedrooms that are designed to accommodate families. A resort this size is perfect for family vacations because it not only offers a more intimate experience but it is easy to familiarize yourself with where everything is located especially for kids who might get intimidated by the size of larger resorts.

There are four accommodation types to choose from:

Beach View 2 Bedroom Suite

• 2 bedrooms
• Separate living room with pull out sofa
• Rollaway bed and crib
• Kitchenette with appliances
• Balcony/Patio with ocean view
• Maximum guests: 4 adults and 3 children

Beach View Junior 2 Bedroom Suite

• 2 bedrooms
• Kitchenette 
• Private Balcony with beach view
• Crib
• Maximum guests: 2 adults and 3 children under 16 or 3 adults only

Garden/Pool View 2 Bedroom Suite

• 2 bedrooms
• 2 bathrooms
• Kitchenette
• Private balcony overlooking garden or pool
• Crib
• Maximum guests: 2 adults and 3 children under 16 or 3 adults only

Garden/Pool View Junior 2 Bedroom Suite

• 2 bedrooms
• Kitchenette
• Private Balcony with garden or pool view
• Rollaway bed and crib
• Maximum guests: 2 adults and 3 children under 16

There are often specials or promotions you can look out for to lessen the expenses of vacationing abroad. There is usually a minimum night stay attached to these promotions.

Children At Franklyn D Resort Jamaica

Sometimes children are an afterthought at resorts. But, at FDR children are a priority. There are many programmes at FDR that cater to kids from toddlers to teens.

The Yellow Bird Kids Club

• This kids centre is perfect for kids of all ages. The fun begins at 7:30 am and doesn’t end until 10:00 am. That’s just enough time to:
• Play with the toys
• Surf the internet
• Do arts and crafts
• Have a pajama party
• Collect shells on the beach 
• Go fishing 
• Have a glass-bottom boat ride
• Take snorkelling lessons
• Take soccer lessons
• Take cooking and napkin folding lessons
• Have a beach picnic

Actually, thinking about it now, I don’t think they can do it all, especially when I remember there are tennis and bicycle rides to enjoy too.

If they would prefer to just have fun by the pool or at the beach. That is an option just the same. There are four pools and the main pool has a shallow end perfect for kids.

There is Big Blue, the 100ft slide on the property that is perfect for the more adventurous kids who are avid swimmers. Even adults take a turn down Big Blue.

Teens

As you already know teens are at the age where they won’t necessarily find the same things enjoyable as smaller children. Don’t worry, they are catered to just the same. For them, there is:

• Tie and Dye
• Crab racing
• Kayak racing
• Volleyball
• Disco
• Reggae dance classes
• Talent shows
• Supervised teen trips
• Bike tours
• Pool Olympics
• And countless other games as well.

Vacation Nanny

Franklyn D Resort | Vacation Nanny

Franklyn D Resort Jamaica is one of the best Jamaican resorts when it comes to nanny services. Something no other Jamaican resort does, that is common practice at FDR is to include a nanny for every family with children who vacations at the resort.

Your personal nanny is trained in childcare, and housekeeping and can even double as your vacation assistant if you need help planning celebratory events.

Nannies take care of the small things and supervise the children in their various activities which gives you more free time to do your own activities and relax for a few hours.

A good rejuvenating vacation will give you that much more energy to hit the ground running when you return to normal life. Your nanny will participate in family activities, and entertain and supervise the children.

From 8:30 AM to 4:40 PM she will be with you and for hours beyond that, it will be at an additional hourly paid rate. An extra nanny is paid per nanny per day.

Adult Activities

Now that we know the kids are safe and having fun, the adults can relax bearing that in mind. What adult activities are available? Plenty!

• Stroll down the mile-long beach
• Have a drink at the bar
• Play poolside games
• Snorkel 
• Kayak
• Tennis (day and night play)
• Billiards
• Fitness Centre
• Aerobics
• Basketball
• Bicycle Rides
• Seagrape Spa
• Golf (available off property for an additional cost)

Dining At Franklyn D Resort Jamaica

There are five dining options.

• Honeycomb Shore Restaurant - Opened for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Dinner is a la carte and begins at 6:30 PM and ends at 10:30 PM.


• The Pier - The Italian, French and Indian cuisine a la carte restaurant is adults only and perfect for a romantic evening. It is open on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 6:30-10:30 PM.


• Sea Cotton Tree Grill - Serves snacks that can be had by the beach or pool. Open from 11 AM to midnight daily.


• Overproof Restaurant - Beachside Jamaican restaurant which serves all the favourites and must have Jamaican dishes. This restaurant is adults only and is open from 6:30pm to 10:30pm.


• Kids Buffett - From 5:30pm- 7:30 PM, kids' favourite foods are served in kids sized portions on tables perfect for their height.

Weddings

Franklyn D Resort Jamaica does weddings, renewal of vows and has honeymoon packages as well. For more information on their wedding packages visit the website or contact the wedding planner.

Trips Off Property

Local Trips can be arranged to:

• Ocho Rios Shopping Tour (complimentary shuttle on Thursdays at 2:30 pm and on Saturdays at 10:30 pm)
• Dunn’s River Falls (complimentary shuttle on Wednesdays at 2:30 pm)
• Chukka Tours
• Dolphin Cove
• Green Grotto Caves
• Blue Mountain Tour
• Mystic Mountain

The cost for trips is not included in your package. You can arrange trips or wait on the shuttle by the front desk area.

What Is Entertainment Like At FDR?

Kids

• Sunday - Pajama Party
• Monday - Tennis/Disco
