Montego Bay is the tourist capital of the island, depending on where you are in the city, you will always see a few tourists casually walking around, especially on the Hip Strip, also referred to as the bottom road, However, it’s official name is now Jimmy Cliff Boulevard. Named after, the cultural and musical icon.

The hip strip is the party central of Montego bay. There are many clubs, restaurants and bars in this vicinity, so if you want to have some fun, this is where you will need to be. What else can you find on the hip strip? Jerk Foods of course!

But maybe not quite in the way you might imagine. There are not many open grill restaurants on the hip strip, but you will find many street vendors with their Jerk pans and jerking chicken right there on the street side.

There is absolutely no reason to be skeptical about purchasing from them; for most, that’s their official business, and some even have a license to do so. Plus you will be guaranteed to have some of the best-tasting jerk chicken you can find around town.

Mobay Grill Spots

  1. Pork Pit - is actually one of the few restaurants on the hip strip that has an open grill, where you can sit and watch as your food is being prepared. They have been in the business for years and their quality of jerk food, especially the jerk pork (true to its name), is among the best in the area.

  2. Margaritaville - It is well-known for its swinging parties, evening activities, slides, sunset vistas, and other things. The main focus of Margaritaville is having a good time. You are in for a treat when you pair that with any dish from their broad menu of regional and international cuisine.

    Jerk BBQ Pork Tacos, Jerk BBQ Cheeseburger, Jerk Pulled Pork Sandwich, and Jerk BBQ Chicken, are a few of the jerk dishes you may enjoy.

  3. Usain Bolt Tracks and Records - If you enjoy fantastic games, here is the spot for you. This eatery is a classy fusion of a sports lounge and a gourmet dining establishment. They primarily serve traditional cuisine with a touch of sophistication.

    You may love their popular Jerk buffalo wings, jerk chicken spring rolls, pulled jerk chicken wrap, jerk pork, jerk platter, and jerk honey mustard lamb rack.

  4. There are many other places on the hip strip where you can find jerk foods, especially if you are trying to experience more than just plain jerk chicken and pork. The street food vendors are a great option too.

    Speaking of street food vendors, another great area to grab some jerk chicken in Montego bay is Sam Sharpe Square, named in honour of one of our national heroes. In the square, especially at night, you will find many vendors out with their jerk pans selling both jerk pork and chicken.

  5. If you are willing to venture outside of the Montego Bay town a bit you will come upon one of the island’s most popular jerk centres, Scotchies.

    Prepare yourself to inhale the restaurant's mouthwatering aromas and smoke by ordering your jerk chicken in 1/4, 1/2, or whole portions and your pork in 1/4, 1/2, or 1 lb portions.

    Turn the heat up a notch with one of their sizzling hot sauces and take a seat on one of the converted beer barrels that have been made into padded stools. Their luscious, spicy jerk chicken, typically cooked over pimento tree branches, is what most tantalizes taste buds.
