Today I’ll be talking to you about our beautiful Runaway Bay! I’ll give you a little history about this resort town and tell you what you can do while you are here.

History Of Runaway Bay Jamaica

The name “Runaway Bay” was not just pulled out of a hat, and there are interesting reasons of how the town got its name! One theory says the name came about because it was the fleeing point for Spanish soldiers who were escaping the English troops in the 1600s.

Another explanation, and the most accepted, is that the name came about because this was the escape route for runaway slaves, who wanted to leave the Island and depart to Cuba.

Whichever the reason, people are hardly in a hurry to actually run away from Runaway Bay nowadays! 

What To Do In Runaway Bay

If you are looking for a relaxing, quiet and peaceful beach vacation, where water sports and golf is an option, look no further than this beautiful town!

This town is half an hour away from Ocho Rios, the mecca of Jamaica’s tours and excursions, but you don't have to leave Runaway Bay to have a good time, there are things you can do right there! Runway Bay is home to some.

• Green Grotto Caves
  
  Take a step into our History and take a look at the past. Take a view of another side of Jamaica that many know not of…escape a little into the Green Grotto Caves, and learn about our history, as far back as the Arawaks!
  
  The Green Grotto Caves were used to shelter Spanish soldiers fleeing from the English invaders who drove them out of the Island. It was also one home to the native Indians and a hide out for runaway slaves who were trying to escape.
  
  
• Cardiff Hall Beach:
  
  Take a stroll on one of Jamaica’s most naturally beautiful public beaches! This Beach is just walking distance from the town, will appeal to anyone who is visiting and want to get a true feel of what Jamaica has to offer!

• Ocean View Beach:
  
  Another Beautiful and wide golden sand beach in Runaway Bay for you to relax and sip your favorite drink! Take in the sunset with your loved one while you're at it! The Best memories are made when you share the moment!  

• Runaway Bay is probably the ideal vacation area in Jamaica because it's just a stone throw away from many attractions! What Runaway Bay doesn’t have, her neighbors willingly provide!
