Snorkeling In Montego BaySnorkeling In Montego Bay

Jamaica is stunning everywhere you look, but the blue waters are exceptionally breathtaking. Particularly in places like Montego Bay on the north coast. Take your experience to another level by going snorkeling! Snorkeling is a fantastic activity for those visiting Montego Bay.

While snorkeling in Jamaica is enjoyable all throughout the year, some months stand out more than others as being particularly favourable, such as from March to May.

In Jamaica, your chances of seeing a dive rely primarily on where you choose to snorkel and whether you're near the coast or at one of the deeper reefs. However, you can typically expect to observe sea urchins, angelfish, and parrotfish while snorkeling in Jamaica's beautiful waters.

Are there sea turtles in Montego Bay Jamaica?

You can never be sure of seeing a sea turtle when you go snorkeling anywhere in Jamaica but the north coast is considered a turtle nesting area, so you might get lucky.

Snorkelers might also observe clown fish, large-eyed squirrelfish, dartfish, kingfish, jack, mackerel, whiting fish, tuna, and on occasion turtles. Things like the four-eye butterflyfish and sharpnose puffers are less frequently seen.

Is there good snorkeling in Montego Bay?

There are many great spots for snorkeling in Montego Bay. The most popular of all are the Doctor's Cave Beach and Montego Bay Marine Park. The coral reefs and other natural features of these beaches are preserved because of this classification. Doctor's Cave Beach is a favourite among both tourists and residents for this reason as well as others related to its laid-back atmosphere.

Another good spot is the Cornwall Beach but, more on that one in a second.

Best Spots For Snorkeling In Montego Bay

  1. Doctorโ€™s Cave Beach - The first thing you may learn about Doctor's Cave Beach is that the waters have a therapeutic character. Whether or not this long-standing tradition is true, it has persisted, and even the most casual dive there now includes a self-care element.

You may easily explore protected coral reefs at Doctor's Cave Beach on foot. Since the environmental restrictions have helped to maintain the beauty of the reefs here, visitors adore diving on this beach.

Visits to Doctor's Cave Beach are roughly $7 for adults and $3 for kids each day. Access to beach bars, restrooms, and a variety of water activities are all included in that price; the latter are charged separately. you may also be able to rent snorkeling gears for an additional price as well.

  2. Montego Bay Marine Park - With some of Jamaica's top dive and snorkeling locations, the Montego Bay Marine Park promises to be the highlight of any visit to Montego Bay. This is Jamaica's first marine park, having opened in 1991.

There are 12 miles of shoreline inside the park, as well as spectacular mangrove ecosystems, seagrass beds, and, of course, many coral reefs. The fact that this area is protected is excellent news for divers.

Most of the reefs are close to shore, making snorkeling here simple. Due in large part to stringent environmental laws, coral reefs and robust marine life can be found beneath the seas.

  3. Cornwall Beach - Remember I said, I speak a little more about this one? Well, what was once Cornwall beach has been developed into the Royal Decameron Cornwall Beach hotel. However, the beach is still great for snorkeling. While it's not free for the public to just walk onto the beach as they please, purchasing a pass from the hotel might be helpful.

Now that you know where to go, you may also want to know how to get there and make the best of it. A great option is to contact a watersport activities company in Mobay.

  • Kellyโ€™s Water Sports Jamaica Ltd - offer a wide range of Watersports Activities such as Scuba Diving, Glass Bottom Boat Ride, Snorkeling Tour, Tubing, Banana Boat Rides, Water Ski, Wakeboarding, Kneeboarding, and Parasailing. • C-Jay's Water Sports - This business is based at Pier 1 Marina, and they provide a variety of water sports, including snorkeling, parasailing, fishing, banana boat rides, water skiing, scuba diving, and speed boat cruises. Contact them at: (876) 881-7585, 1 (876) 632-5824 or by email at: contactus@cjwatersportsjm.com

Some of these companies offer other watersport activities like scubadiving too. Grab your gears, because this is something you definitely need to experience.
