Digicel Jamaica is the leading mobile phone network and telecommunications provider in here in Jamaica. It was founded in 2001 by Irish businessman Denis O'Brien and since then has grown to become one of the largest mobile phone providers in the Caribbean, Central America, and the Pacific Islands.

Let’s take a closer look at Digicel Jamaica and explore some of its key features and services.

History and Background

Digicel Jamaica was launched in 2001, just a few years after the Jamaican government liberalized the telecommunications market. Prior to the arrival of Digicel, the market was dominated by one major player, Cable & Wireless Jamaica. However, when Digicel entered the market with a promise to provide affordable and reliable mobile phone services to Jamaican consumers, people were all for it. They quickly gained popularity, thanks in part to its aggressive marketing campaigns, competitive pricing and overall better coverage.

Today, Digicel is one of the largest mobile phone providers on the island, with over over 88% of the mobile users on the island subscribed to them, myself included. The company has invested heavily in its infrastructure, including building out a state-of-the-art mobile network that covers over 95% of the country. This has allowed Digicel to offer high-quality voice and data services to its customers, even in remote areas of the country.

Services and Features

Digicel offers a wide range of mobile phone services to its customers, including voice calls, text messaging, and mobile data. They also offer a number of value-added services, such as mobile money, music and entertainment, and international calling.

Mobile Money: Digicel's mobile money service, called Digicel MyCash, allows customers to send and receive money using their mobile phones. With Digicel MyCash, customers can pay bills, top up their mobile phones, and even withdraw cash from participating retailers.
