If you are planning to have an eco-friendly vacation in Jamaica, being outdoors a lot should be expected. With that being said, knowing what is the best time of year to visit Jamaica for aco-tourism is ideal when planning your trip.

While Jamaica does have almost the perfect weather, knowing the different weather patterns are important to planning your vacation.

What is the best time of year to visit Jamaica for eco-tourism?

You would probably think that the best time to visit Jamaica for eco-tourism is during the summer months of June to August, and not that you can’t enjoy the outdoors during that time however the absolute best to visit would be in Jamaica’s dry season, between December and April. And while this is technically winter for everyone else, Jamaica doesn’t really have a “winter” season. During this time the sun is out, and there is little to no rainfall and the temperature is just right, not cold and not scorching hot, so you can’t enjoy the outdoors.

However, this is also the island’s peak season so prices are at the highest at this time and everywhere is a bit more crowded. You would need to book your accommodations a few months prior. So, if you are looking forward to enjoying multiple excursions per day and being out and about from sunrise to sunset, this is the time to plan your visit.

Now while those months are the absolute best, that is not to say that you cannot enjoy an eco-friendly trip in Jamaica for the rest of the year. You may have to do a bit more planning and take a closer look at the weather when planning your excursions. You may also see a drop in prices, get more discounts and experience fewer crowds.

Here are some additional tips for your ecotourism vacation in Jamaica:

  1. Choose Your Accommodations Carefully - Although many hotels and resorts claim to be environmentally friendly, the devil often lies in the details. Most eco friendly accommodations have some form of certification proving that eco-friendly materials were employed in its construction. This also supports sustainable techniques for using electricity and water. Furthermore, eco-friendly vacation spots put effort into recycling, avoiding plastics, and encouraging both conservation and reuse. Additionally, it is essential to look at local lodging options to promote the viability of the neighbourhood economy. Ensure you are informed and don't be afraid to ask specific questions. Destinations that have committed to sustainable tourism will be pleased to respond.

  2. Always travel with insects and bug repellents. If you are planning an eco-friendly trip, more than likely you are also planning on being outdoors a lot. Whether you are planning on going hiking in the blue mountains, climbing the waterfalls at Dunn's River or Ys Falls, going horseback riding or any other of the many many eco-friendly activities available to you in Jamaica, you definitely want to prepare for the possibility of getting a bite or two.

  3. Eco-tourism is all about taking care of our environment and respecting the environment is obviously one of the most crucial things visitors can do to preserve Jamaica's natural treasures. This entails refraining from trash, endangering wildlife or plants, and altering natural environments. Keep to the approved trails when visiting natural places to preserve the environment.

Need help figuring out what to do on your trip? Here are some eco-friendly activities and places to visit in Jamaica.

  • Dunn’s River Falls for climbing the falls and ziplining
  • The Jamaican Blue Mountains for hiking
  • Martha Brae River for bamboo rafting
  • Explore the Green Grotto Caves
  • Luminous Lagoon for a night swim
  • Black River Safari Tour
  • Bathe in the Blue Hole Mineral Spring
  • Surfing at Wickie Wackie Beach in St. Thomas.
  • Take a swim at the Blue Lagoon
  • Go horseback riding with Chukka Cove.

Jamaica is great for eco-tourism all year long, all it takes is a bit of planning.
