Festivals and Events

I have to kick this list off with the events and festivals. Summer in Jamaica has the best events of the year. The parties are exquisite, so much so that you have people catching flights every year just not to miss out on these events. So here are the top summer events in Jamaica, in my opinion, ofcourse.

  1. MochaFest: MochaFest in Negril, is a vibrant 5-day urban vacation and party series festival. You can celebrate with adventurous adults from around the globe in one of our most electrifying atmospheres. It’s an incredible opportunity to immerse yourself in exciting parties and cultural experiences.

  2. Boston Jerk Fest: Here you will be able to experience the authentic flavours of our renowned Jamaican jerk cuisine at the Boston Jerk Festival in the beautiful parish of Portland. This festival celebrates our jerk heritage with mouthwatering dishes like jerk chicken, pork, and seafood, all prepared with a perfect blend of spices. The atmosphere is always lively with live music and cultural activities.

  3. Reggae Sumfest: They call it the best Reggae show on earth for a reason! You must come and experience the largest reggae music festival in the Caribbean, Reggae Sumfest, which is held in Montego Bay. It is a week-long celebration of Jamaican music and culture that features a remarkable lineup of regional and international performers, electrifying concerts, and a vibrant street party atmosphere. Highlights include family fun days, street dances, themed parties, sound clashes, and stage show festival nights.

  4. Dream Weekend: I could not leave this one off the list. Dream Weekend, is a high-energy event that takes place in Negril every summer. It features the most well-known DJs and performers and has activities spread across Negril’s white-sand beaches. Dream Weekend brings a wild, exhilarating experience. You will want to get your tickets early for this one as they are popular and sell out quickly.

  5. Emancipation Jubilee: Celebrate Jamaica’s Emancipation Jubilee at Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann. This emotional event honours the end of slavery with traditional drumming, storytelling, cultural acts, and a candlelit vigil. As a visitor, you can explore historical displays to gain a deeper understanding of our island’s struggle for freedom.

Outdoor Adventures

The weather in Jamaica is great during summer; it is warm and sunny with little rainfall, making it perfect for water and other outdoor activities. Here are the places I think you should include on your bucket list.

Dunn’s River Falls and Park: You can climb the terraced waterfalls and enjoy the refreshing water! The surrounding park offers lush gardens, a sandy beach, and picnic areas, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and fun.

The Luminous Lagoon: This is the most perfect night-time activity. Witness the magical Luminous Lagoon near Falmouth, where the waters glow with a brilliant blue light at night due to bioluminescent microorganisms. You can take a boat tour to see the glowing waters up close and even take a dip in the luminescent sea.

Other Activities you may enjoy include:

  • Parasailing
  • Ziplining
  • Horseback Riding
  • Bamboo Rafting

Relax and Unwind

Summer is not just all about being outdoors and partying. If You want to spend your days relaxing and getting pampered that’s also an option. You can try some of our top spa retreats and wellness centres.

Shopping and Souvenirs

Pictures are great but having something physical to commemorate your time here in Jamaica would be great right? You can visit any of our craft markets in cities like Kingston, Montego Bay, and Ocho Rios. Pick up unique souvenirs, including handmade crafts, wood carvings, beadwork, and colourful textiles. Engage with local artisans and find authentic Jamaican crafts.

You can also take advantage of duty-free shopping. You can shop for jewellery, perfumes, and liquor at reduced prices. Montego Bay’s Half Moon Shopping Village and Kingston’s Sovereign Centre are popular spots for duty-free shopping.

Sample Jamaican Rum

I am certainly not encouraging anyone to get drunk, but sampling some of our rum is a must if you can tolerate it. Jamaica is renowned for its rich and flavorful rum, which is an integral part of our heritage. Not only can you sample these rums, but you can also do rum tours and see how they make everything from scratch. Here are the rum tours worth doing:

Try adding some Wray and Nephew White Overproof rum to your mixed drink. Remember to always drink responsibly.

From vibrant festivals and thrilling adventures to relaxing retreats and unique attractions, we have a wide range of activities that will make your summer here in Jamaica, a one-of-a-kind experience.

But be sure to play it safe! Here is my recommended safety guide book.
