Jamaica is beautiful and fun all year round and regardless of when you visit you can be guaranteed to have a memorable experience. However, there are some months that can pose quite a bit of challenge and may have you put some serious thinking into when you should really plan a Jamaican vacation.

Hurricane Season

The worst months to visit Jamaica are August through October when the Caribbean hurricane season is in full swing. Warm temperatures, beautiful beaches, exciting culture, and high-quality resorts in Montego Bay, Negril, and Ocho Rios contribute to the island's popularity.

However, its popularity suffers during a portion of the year due to the Jamaica hurricane season, which brings heavy rains and the potential for damaging storms.

Like most Caribbean islands, Jamaica has a hurricane season that lasts from June to November.

During the hurricane season, average rainfall increases slightly in June and decreases in July. According to 30 years of historical data from the Meteorological Service of Jamaica, it then picks up in August and rockets up to a peak of seven inches in October.

If you intend to visit Jamaica during this time of the year it would be particularly trying to really explore the island the way you would want to. Want to go ziplining? Sure it is fun when itโ€™s dry and while ziplining through the rainforest during a thunderstorm may sound thrilling and adventurous it can be just as dangerous. It will be quite a bummer if, on the day that you planned to have your fun-filled sunny beach day, you wake up to an overcast sky and a forecast for heavy showers by 11 am.

So if you are a lover of the outdoors and you are planning your vacation around thrilling excursions these months may not be the best time to visit Jamaica. Unless of course you plan on waking up at the crack of dawn each morning.

You will find however that Jamaica is always fun regardless of the weather and most resorts have a variety of indoor activities that you can enjoy including board games, electronic game rooms, spas and much more.

I must also hasten to point out that Jamaica has not experienced a hurricane in years... I hope I haven't spoken to soon.

Peak Season

This for some, is far worst than the hurricane season. For some, large crowds just don't facilitate a proper relaxing trip. For others, peak season is not beneficial to their trip on a budget.

If you are on a budget you will want to avoid travelling to Jamaica during the peak season as much as possible. Jamaica's high season typically begins in mid-December and lasts until April of the following year.

During this time, the island is a hive of activity, with crowds of tourists flocking to popular sites and beaches, all eager to make the most of a vacation on an island with near-perfect weather. This sounds fantastic right? So what could be wrong?

Well, it really comes down to preference. If you are on a budget this may not work for you. During the peak season resorts, hotels and all forms of accommodation skyrocket in prices. Sometimes up to 3 times as expensive as in the slow season.

Not only are the accommodations more expensive between the months of December and April, but they are also often times fully booked, you will be required to book way in advance, and a few months to a year would be ideal. So this season is not best for a spontaneous weekend trip.

Tourists from all over tend to flock to the island during this season as they try to escape the snow and low temperatures in their own countries for the all-year-round warmth that Jamaica provides. Because of this, you will find that not only are the resorts overbooked but they tend to be quite crowdy as well.

If you enjoy the peace and quiet a major resort during this season would not be a good idea. You will also find that it is not just the resorts that are crowdy but popular tourist hotspots as well such as Margaritaville, Rickโ€™s Cafรฉ and many more.

With proper planning, a vacation in Jamaica can be great all year round. And there are attractions, restaurants and accommodation๏ปฟ to suit all preferences and budgets.
