Montego Bay, Jamaica, is our second city. But itโ€™s so much more than just that. As one of our top tourist destinations, it is widely loved by many. Letโ€™s dig into why.

1. Rich History

Right at the heart of Montego Bay, you'll find Sam Sharpe Square โ€“ a place that pays tribute to Samuel Sharpe, one of our national heroes and freedom fighter. The square is surrounded by buildings that have seen a lot over the years.

The Cage, which is a small structure in the square, is a reminder of the harsh punishments doled out during slavery. Looking around you'll also spot the Montego Bay Civic Centre, once a courthouse that played a role in the trial following the Christmas Rebellion. Today, it houses the National Museum West, where you can get a sneak peek into Jamaica's history.

Other popular locations for a walk-down history in Montego Bay include the Greenwood Great House and the Rosehall Greathouse. The Greenwood Great House is an old plantation house with killer views. You're stepping into the past surrounded by greenery and stories that have been around for ages. While the Rose Hall Great House is all about Annie Palmer, the "White Witch of Rose Hall." They say she still hangs around. If you're into ghost stories and a bit of a thrill, this is your gig. But don't freak out; it's all in good fun... unless you're easily spooked!

2. The Beaches

Beaches, one of Montego Bay's top attractions. Among the most well-known beaches in Montego Bay is Doctor's Cave Beach. People have been drawn to this place for decades by its pristine seas and snow-white sands. The underground caves that lead to the sea are what cause the beach's tranquil waters, which make for a peaceful swimming experience.

Harmony Beach Park in Montego Bay is one of the best options for those looking for a livelier environment. This public beach is ideal for people looking for amusement and leisure because eateries, retail establishments, and water sports facilities border it. The beach is unique because of its lively atmosphere and range of activities.

3. Nightlife on the Hip Strip

When the sun goes down, the Hip Strip is where it's at. Bars, clubs, the whole shebang. Margaritaville is one of the best spots โ€“ loud music, flowing drinks, and a vibe just right for a night out.

Pier One is great for Friday nights, Margaritaville for ladies' night on Thursday, and for turning up and Saturday nights. There are also other clubs such as Lounge 27/27, Rehab and Taboo. Or if you like to try your luck, the Coral Cliff gaming lounge would be a great spot.

4. Shopping

No trip is complete without a little shopping trip right? Montego Bay is like a duty-free haven. Rum, coffee, reggae tunes โ€“ it's a one-stop shop. Not only that, but you can find many original art pieces and souvenirs to take home with you. Take a look at some of our top recommended places in Montego Bay to go shopping.

5. Airlines Offering Nonstop Flights

More airlines are offering nonstop service to Montego Bay from US hubs as the destination is popular among travellers. There were inexpensive flights to Montego Bay available in the winter of 2023 from over 20 US airports.

Edmund Bartlett, the Minister of Tourism for Jamaica, states that the newly opened gateways at Denver International Airport and Kansas City International in Missouri are essential components that guarantee connectivity between the Caribbean and the US Midwest, an expanding market. Talk about convenience!

6. Major Resort Destination

Most visitors to Montego Bay seek an all-inclusive resort experience that provides leisure and excellent service. Montego Bay offers first-rate service and security, making it one of the not just Jamaica's, but the Caribbean's most well-equipped beach destinations. The Hilton Rose Hall Resort & Spa, which welcomes families and pets, the stylish adults-only resort Breathless, and the renowned seaside S Hotel are just a few of the all-inclusive resort choices.

Montego Bay's popularity is no mystery. Its harmonious blend of natural beauty, welcoming locals, and diverse range of activities make it a magnetic destination for travellers seeking an unforgettable experience. Whether you're an adventure seeker, a history buff, or someone yearning for relaxation by the sea, Montego Bay welcomes you with open arms.
