Haiti Ravaged by Catastrophic Earthquake

by Wellesley
(Montego Bay, Jamaica)

Unless you are living on the moon then this is news to you!

Apparently, about 4:53pm on Tuesday, a deadly earthquake, measuring 7.0, devastated Haiti our Caribbean neighbour - the poorest island in the Western Hemisphere.

Apparently, it was centered around the capital of Port-au-Prince.

My friend, it is scary!
The BBC is reporting that "tens of thousands are feared to have died and three million displaced. Bodies are piled up on the rubble-strewn streets of the capital. Rescue workers are in a race against time to find survivors".

Here are some of the earlier reports:

We in Jamaica are lucky, we have A LOT to be thankful for; it could have easily be us.

In fact, the Earthquake Unit at the Mona campus of the University of the West Indies in Kingston reported that two aftershocks, measuring magnitude 5.5 and 5.9, were felt in sections of Kingston, St Thomas, St Mary and Portland.

Soon after the impact, The Pacific Warning Centre issued a tsunami watch for Haiti, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas. It was however lifted late the same night.

Let's reach out in love and compassion to our friends in Haiti and pray that as much lives will be saved and that they recover soon.

For the VERY LATEST DEVELOPMENTS there, stay in touch with this BBC News link or follow Google News.
