Jamaica has a number of exiting young talented Reggae artistes that providing great hope for the future of our Reggae music.
Although it appears that reggae music now has a new, more contemporary, style to it,the distinctive beat of sweet Reggae music still remains the same.
Some of the younger Reggae artistes that are making great strides are:
Romaine Virgo, Proto J, Etana, Chronixx and Taurus Riley - just to name a few of them.
Romaine Virgo was born in 1990 and got his first big break in 2007. From there his music career took a very promising turn. Romaine has a good number of hits so far and he has a positive personality - which I think is great.
Proto J (Protoje) came on the scene in 2010 and from there his career as been making good progress. Etana, birth name Shauna McKenzie, is a talented female Reggae artiste who became famous in the early 2000's. In 2010 she won every single female artiste award in Jamaica - eg. best singer of the year.
Chronixx is a nineteen year old (born October 10, 1992), fresh and exciting Reggae Artiste on the scene. His real name is Jamar Rolando McNaughton. He attended St. Catherine High school. Chronixx has already produced rythms for artistes such as Konshens and Munga Honorable and composed riddims such as the 'Freezer Riddim' for Icebox Records and voicing artistes such as, Popcaan for Maverick Records.
Taurus Riley (birth name Omar Riley -1979) is the son of Reggae Veteran artiste Jimmy Riley. Taurus has won many awards for example best: Singer, Male Vocalist, Cultural Artiste, Song of the Year, and Best Song.
With these young promising minds, wouldn't you say that Jamaica's Reggae Music is in good hands?
