My special gem location is called Laughing Waters in Ocho Rios.

As a teenager who at the time attended Priory High School, a few of my friends and I stayed in one of the beautiful hotels nestled on the scenic beach opening to the Caribbean crystal azure blue sea.

The hotel had airy rooms well lit by day by the island sunrays and by night by the stark brightness of the moon reflecting off the warm sea.

Eating by the patio was relaxing and conducive to enjoying the delectable ackee and salt fish for breakfast, and for dinner the traditional rice and peas and chicken.

The staff was quite respectful, even though we were teens. They treated us with alacrity, you know, that eagerness to please us and tell us where to have fun.

Though it was not their role, they maintained the traditional view of looking out for us as surrogate parents. We drove to the secret gem called laughing Waters.

It was a private area at the time and few happy souls knew of this magnificent paradise. It is located near Dunns River Falls so close yet so different with its own beauty.

We drove to the private property at the time as it was not open to the public. Our adventure began as we donned our rubber soles and swimsuits and set off on our dissension down the slopes. We walked down parallel to the majestic waterfall as the mist sprayed us as if to say let me cool you down, irie? Yes it was.

when we reach midway down, we jumped in, as the white waters was splashing down and laughing with us, we swam around, then we carefully descended the rest of the way until we came to the bottom of the falls, all at once we beheld the most magnificent sight, the brilliance of which was indelible imprinted in our minds and souls forever.

The awesome beauty of the waterfall blending into the beckoning crystal blue light emerald waters of the sea, so warm and inviting.

We crossed the silt bar that took us to the beach side and spent a delightful day mesmerized by the charm and beauty of our paradise.
